Personal: Loan Sharks

What do you think of when people tell you things about loan sharks? If you don't already know what a loan shark meant, here's a short description I copied from wiki:

A loan shark is a person or body that offers loans at extremely high interest rates.The term usually refers to illegal activity, but may also refer to predatory lending with extremely high interest rates such as payday or title loans. Loan sharks sometimes enforce repayment by blackmail or threats of violence.

My family, my mom, sis and I, was recently harassed by this group of irritants and pests. It was confirmed that they were sent by my idiotic father (who from here on will be named as the idiot) whom I now detest and loathe and hate and whatever. I am intending to cut off all ties with him legally (if there's even a way to, watch too much drama). He has brought to us nothing but troubles. (Song playing in my head now - I knew you were trouble when you walked in - too much from yesterday's fun with the cchyians)

So, what happened was....

Last week, my mom received a call at work from a man named Mr Loo saying that we owed him money and we have to pay up if not he will spray paint and etc. He insisted that my mom was the idiot's wife which is not true since almost more than 10 years ago. They were divorced so freaking long ago. My mom was in a meeting so she couldn't talk to him. Over that short call, he threatened to "make" (in mandarin) my sister and I. The best part was he knew our names and age and etc. 

I was in school waiting for Raymond to finish his paper then go home together when that happened. So, carefree as always, I was chilling in R's car watching a new show that I'm so into now, The Following. Ok, not the point. I received the call from my mom and I thought like she wanted to ask me to run errands again as usual but NO....Her voice was shaky and panicky. I can sense the fear, anger, frustration, misery in her voice. There, I knew it, he's back to cause more trouble. 

She told me over the phone to stay safe and be careful when I'm out as the Loan Shark (Mr Loo) said he was going to do something to us. I told her that we'll make a police report after she ends work that night and I immediately tried to call my sister to ensure that she's safe. What's the best thing to happen when you desperately wants to ensure someone's safety? She didn't pick up her phone because she was using a lousy Samsung phone. Luckily, she was at home when I called home to check. 

R and I headed back home immediately and waited for my mom to return. In the mean time, I called the idiot to tell him what happened. I was really in a super bad mood when I made that call which explains the sucky attitude. If you know me well enough, you know how my sucky attitude can sound like. I was extremely  fierce and I am not going to deny it. It was no way to speak to a father in normal circumstances but for me, he was the idiot already. No face left for him because he doesn't deserve any. 

He then texted me the numbers of 2 different loan sharks. Like 1 is not enough. Fuck this shit. 

I forward that SMS to my mom and when she came home, she made a call to the loan sharks. I was recording the whole call as she was using loud speakers.

That loan shark, Mr Loo, admitted that he was the one who called my mom in the afternoon and threatened to spray paint and even kill my sis and I if we didn't pay up. They were screaming and shouting at each other over the call. He kept saying stuff like there's no use in us making police report because the police can't find him, he's in this trade for more than a decade and blah blah blah. He told my mom not to blame him if either my sis or I get run down by random cars when crossing the roads etc etc. My mom was so agitated she couldn't even stand properly. 

When she asked him how much the idiot owes him...guess what he replied?

WTF? For $1000, you want to kill someone. All of us did not know to laugh or to be angry. Seriously, wtf!!!

He said that he has 3 different addresses that was given to him when the idiot borrowed money from him. One is of course our address, one in holland village and another one was one of our old address which we already moved out almost 15-20 years ago (can't remember exactly when). 

He refused to take our point that we haven't been in contact with him for the past 15 years. He doesn't live here for more than a decade and that they are already divorced. He said that from what he knows is that they are husband and wife and so she has to pay up for him? WTF! Go and DIEEE!!!! Super unreasonable and incorrigible. Why harass us when we didn't even use a single cent? 

We made a police report after that call. It was horrible. 

Basically, the police can't do anything but wait because they can't find the person and they can't arrest them until they do something i.e. I assume, after I lose a limb or even my life when someone really runs me down. DAMN.

The officer advised us to ignore all calls and any modes of communication with the loan sharks as that would be the best way they will go away.

For the next couple of days, my mom had gotten calls from private numbers and SMS telling her to call back. Like seriously? Call back? Who in the right mind will do that after a police asked you not to? Get yourself into more trouble?

My uncle helped to pick up one of the private numbers this week in hopes that they will understand that we are practically not related to the idiot anymore but guess what? Noooooo... Same thing happened again. All these loan sharks can seriously go find better things to do than make the victims more victimised right? They only lost a few thousands to the idiot (which they are stupid enough to lend him money), we lost more than just money.

Apparently, there seems to be people from all over the country, even someone from Malaysia. wts.

One of the loan sharks even said that the idiot has owed more than just a few loan sharks and many of them are after him. But, what has it got anything to do with us??? I don't understand. Go collect debts from the person whom you lend it to. Not from someone who has not heard from him for more than a decade an a half. 

Anyway, after this incident, we saw on the news that there are actually many of such cases happening all around Singapore. The news said that they were scams but I think for ours it's rather real? I don't know. The idiot can be up to anything. I wonder why I have this kind of father. I must have sinned very badly in my previous life to deserve this. I just want to get this person out of my life for good. I will treat him like a stranger if I ever see him again. 

Seriously, what kind of father is this? Too bad, at the end of the day, life goes on. If you're having similar experiences as me, don't let it bring you down. Stay strong! i'm just quite whiney and hence this long post.
