Makeup Tutorial: Vintage Makeup & Hair
I'm back with another makeup post! The last one was back in December 2012 which I actually did that before I flew to USA. Today's pictorial tutorial is somewhat similar to my Cat eye and red lips one, just that I added in a hairstyle which unfortunately, I failed to take a photo of me preparing it because Raymond came and I was too paiseh (embarrassed) to take photos of myself. I had to shift to my sissy's room to take the photos. HAHA! self-conscious max!
This is the Before & After. More even skin tone, longer & visible lashes, sharper features, fuller brows, bigger eyes, curls and super red lips!
So, after I prime my face, I used NYX's Full coverage concealer in pastel green (CJ12) to neutralise the redness on my face. Mostly just blemishes or pimples which I've been having a lot lately. Hormones going hay wire!!! I applied it with my real techniques' accent brush which is good for blending.
Next, I mixed my Revlon Colorstay foundation to get my skin tone now. I always like to keep a lighter and a darker shade so that I can mix and get the correct colour. My skin tone used to change quite drastically whenever I go for camps or even just one day out on the beach. I get tanned really easily. So it's good to have two different tones to mix and get the suitable shade.
I used my stippling brush from real techniques to blend the liquid foundation in. I have to stay that I'm loving the effects of using a stippling brush. I used a lot less products than when I use my fingers so the base makeup actually looked a lot more natural. Thumbs up!
See! I actually have so much left! I took a wet sponge and applied the remaining foundation on problem areas like my crazy forehead and also my dark eye circles. Also, I also applied just a tiny amount on the corners of the eyes because it's quite dark there. I wonder if this is an asian thing/problem because quite a number of my clients have darker skin tone on the corners of their eyes as well.
Then, with my naturactor concealer in 151, I tried to conceal the rest of the parts which were so stubborn the foundation can't cover, i.e. my blemishes :(
For my brows, this is definitely my go-to product - Kate eyebrow designing N palette. It has 3 different shades and it's really good for filling in your brows. Using a powder instead of a pencil keeps the brows looking more natural and soft. Use the darker shades only for the ends of your brows and the lighter shade for the inner corners.
Now for eye makeup, I used my Maybelline's 24hr color tatto as a base. Using a white color base will make the other colors stand out more vibrantly.
Using my Naked palette - Naked (a matte brown eyeshadow), I applied it to my crease with MAC's 217 brush. I know it's hard to find the crease on asian eyes, so what I do is that I will half close the eye that I'm applying and look downwards. Place the brush just under the brow bone and YAY that's my crease! haha! Blend away. After that, I used Buck, a darker brown, from the same palette and applied it on the outer corners of my eyes and also on the crease to create some dimensions or an illusion of a more deep-set eyes. Ok, maybe just a less puffy eye. HAHA!
Introducing my new favourite gel liner from Maybelline!!! Using the blackest black gel liner and an angled brush, I drew a tiny tick at the end as a guide. I also used my bottom lash line/eye shape as a guide to create the small tick there as seen from the top right photo. Then, just connect the end of tick with the rest of the eye. Make sure the eye liner looks thinner in the inner corners and gradually becomes thicker at the end.
Then, I used a pixel-point eyeliner brush by real techniques and Buck again for my lower lash line. The brush is smaller so it gives you more precision and it gets into the corners better than normal eyeshadow brush.
Curl the lashes and apply mascara. I simply adore the effects of Benefit's Get Real mascara. It's fantastic! In any case, I usually apply mascara before I put on fake eyelashes as this will help my lashes to blend in with the fake eyelashes better. Plus, if you curl and apply mascara on your lashes well, you might not even need to apply another coat to seal the two together as the real lashes are already up there!
Yippee! Fake eyelashes! I applied Stardust's eyelash glue onto the fake eyelashes which I actually just used half lashes (cutting 1 lash into half). It's not that clear but the top right photo is me with one side of my eyes bare, without fake lashes. And that's all for eyes makeup!
Using Rimmel stay matte power, I dust it all over my face. Using a powder will help your face look less shiny and oily.
With my Body Shop bronzer and real techniques contouring brush, I tried to make my face smaller by applying it onto the hollows of my cheeks, just below the cheek bones and also on my jawline. Also, if there is any excess left on the brush, dust it on your hair lines so that your forehead will look smaller as well.
Just look at my awesome NARS Orgasm blusher. The color is so gorgeous! The gold sparkle particles acts as a highlighter as well! I actually also used my Naked 2 Palette - Foxy as a highlighter on my brow bones, nose bridge, cupid's bow and chin.
I always love to put on a lip liner whenever I'm going for a red lips look. Using NYX's lip liner, I outlined my lips. After getting the shape that I want, I filled the whole lips in.
Then, with my cover girl lip stick in hot passion, I applied the hot color directly from the bullet. This color is so beautiful and sexy. The red color just brightened up my whole face!
Close up of the eyes makeup.
As for the hair, I used a curler with a smaller radius, probably 1/4 inch. I curled them all in the same directions, i.e. downwards, including my fringe. After curling each section, I pin-curled them and secured with bobbie pins so they will cool in that position. This will make sure that the curls are smaller and they will definitely last longer.
My baby R tried to kiss me and look at his rosy lips! heehee! And the amazing thing is my lip color is still there! AWESOME!!!!! Do remember to remove the lip color with a proper makeup remover so that you remove all of it.
Lastly, I want to thank R for being so nice and such a doting boyfriend. He has been sending me to tuitions whenever he can which is so awesome because I don't have to take bus in the hot and sunny weather. Plus, I have this weird phobia to drive ever since the accident so it's really great that someone is willing to chauffeur me around. We've been going out and hanging out almost every single day ever since he's back and it's so wonderful. Feels good to have my bf back physically :D Thanks baby! I love you!
Till the next! Cya!
