Rome Italy Day 1

Rome, Italy Day 1

We touched down 30 mins earlier than scheduled even though we left Changi airport 15 mins late. Kudos to SIA!

We realised that we need printed tickets for the attractions that we booked online and it became a "I told you so" moment for R because I asked him if we should print out because Italy might not be as paperless as we expect it to be and he said don't need.

Don't need then don't need lo. In the end, we spent 4€ just to print all the tickets. Wtf.
After scrambling to find a place to print the tickets, we settled our brunch at a random cafe that was along the road because I was starving but I made a wrong choice.
Initially I wanted to eat eggs with bacon, the American way. But R said he was going to try some Italian stuff so I thought why not?

Boom. I got this sandwich that I only ate half of because I don't like the taste of the ham. I'm having flu now so Tbh my sense of taste is not 100% working but I just bth the taste of it.

R says I'm very picky, yea I am. I thought it was the cheese cos I'm not a big fan of 🧀 but turns out it was the ham. Eeeks.
We took a small detour to visit Piazza Navona before heading to Vatican City by foot. Ya, idk why I agreed to it. Maybe because the weather was so cooling I thought we can walk for a bit.
This being the first touristy place we visited was very amazing for us. It wasn't as crowded as I expect it to be. We took quite a few pictures here because the sun was coming out and the sky was clear.

Some random court house that looks zai. It was across the bridge where we needed to get to so we can go Vatican.
We were approached by people asking us if we bought the tickets to the museums and the Chapel because the queue is 1h long blah blah blah.

We bought it online so we didn't need their tour and when we reached the entrance... No queue. Lol. At all.
We got an audio guide for each of us and started walking around. By this time, I think we have been walking for 45 mins already and my feet was still going strong.

I was so amazed by the interior because they're so intricate and for them to build all these back then, they must be very very rich.
It seems like all the peddlers here are selling selfie sticks. Of course we didn't buy. I mean you can get one for $2 at daiso, why would you bother buying from them.

Anyway, this selfie stick has been so useful because my sister was telling me how she was asked to tip a person whom she asked to help take a photo when she was in Europe 3 years ago. Lol.
When I first stepped into the museum I was so amazed by the intricacy, architect and how massive the exhibits are. After awhile.... It became a very different story. Haha.
The audio guide did help to input some knowledge in my brain but I tend to get lost in looking at things or even just people passing by. Lol so sometimes I missed out a very significant portion of the content in the audio guide but what ever la...
Cannot imagine how rich Rome was at its peak.
.
After the Vatican museum, we walked to St Peters to continue with our exploration in the Vatican city.

I didn't know that Vatican City itself is actually a country. Shocking for me, mainly because I'm ignorant. Lol. I always thought Vatican City is part of Italy.

So, we walked around the church using another audio guide and even went into one of the Chapel / room to pray. 蛮有 feel one.

I don't get this kind of feeling when I go to some churches, in fact, only my own church and here.
But we are not Catholic so our church not so swee..
The view outside became so nice because the sky cleared and sun came out. It was so gloomy when we landed.

I was so so so tired by then because we pratically didn't stop walking since we touched down. My step track for yesterday was 18000 steps. My ankle was hurting so bad I demanded to sit down on a bench for about 15 mins.
While we were sitting down minding our own business, an African came over to talk to us asking us where we came from blah blah. After that he suddenly passed us some bracelet and said that it is free. He passed to R first and his natural reaction was to hold it in his hand but he was also rejecting it by saying no at the same time.

The man kept trying to convince us and said that it is free but we also kept insisting that we don't want it. I was so sure it's some kind of scam.
We google this and turns out, it is indeed a scam. Another African approached us today using the same tactic. Lol 😂

We walked back to the hotel after the scam because I was so tired I needed to lay down. But I was also quite hungry so we stopped at some random restaurant to have a quick meal.

Funny thing is, R kept telling me that Italians only eat beef so I will never find any pork/chicken/seafood stuff on their menu. I told him I'm sure they will have and if they do, he has to treat all the
dinner.

Of course, he did not agree to it. Aishhhh should have forced him to agree to it. Lol

End of day 2 for me at this moment and I'm already so sick of pasta, pizza and bread.
@chasingwaterfalls let's eat something else when I go find you. 😂
