hello HCM

Enjoying the SIA Lounge before we fly all thanks to R hehehe. Free food!!!
Waiting for R having his usual morning routine before we board. #ryzer
Hello HCM, Hello Magmar!

Going to be a pokemon master here too! Hahaha

I hope we don't waste our trip catching pokemon. Hahaha
Mr Yang says,
When you travel with me, you travel in style...
Spot the mistake!
First meal in hcm. Just walked into a random pho restaurant while catching zubat. There are tons of zubats here.
A decent bowl of pho to keep us energised for the rest of the day (until dinner) 😂

Taste like a very 面汤 kind. I just can't appreciate pho. Lol
Oh hello! I spent so much time on you and your stores! *winkwinkraymond*
Passed by HCM city hall while finding our way to Benthanh Market (idk if it is spelt this way) that every one of R Vietnamese colleague had asked us to go. Erm, there's nothing there. Don't bother.

It was so hot, i perspired like crazy though i already have a portable fan blowing at my face the whole time.
To live up to our gian peng name, r and i decided that we must come and eat the free food at the lounge.

Overheard the conversation of a group of ang mo at the hotel lounge. There are 2 pair of them. I think one of the pair is staying in a suite so for like more than half of the conversation that i overheard (eavesdrop openly since she was so loud), she was constantly talking about showing her suite to the other couple then continued to talk about the features of her room.
It did not stop there.

The other woman was saying how she wouldn't dare come to the lounge herself. Then this more show off ang mo was like, 'it's all about looking confident. They don't even ask for your room number. It's all confidence.'

I could feel her eyes float towards my direction because I'm wearing my super old cotton on t shirt, giordano pants and nike running shoes. (and maybe because I'm asian)

Damn, then at a store in one of the shopping centre just now,
Another ang mo woman asked me if i could speak english and asked if i knew what the words on the food packaging means despite me telling her that I'm not from vietnam in english.

Kaoz.

Asian means I must know all asian languages?

I turned and walked away.
We went to War Remnants Museum after visiting the market. It was truly eye opening.

I didn't know much about the Vietnam war. It wasn't in the social studies syllabus when we studied about conflicts in other countries. SS syllabus only covered North South Korea, Sri Lanka, Northern Ireland, at least that's what I remember.

I remember my history/ss teacher did mention it briefly about how it was similar to Korea. Conflict of ideologies.
R said that he jumped out of this during NS.
One of the first torture equipment that we saw.

The Guillotine.

It is one thing to read about it and see it on Tv but it is another to see the real thing. I never want to be between the two pieces of wood.
This is known as the tiger cage which they contain the vietnamese in. It's so short, you can't even sit straight.

People are evil and cruel.
Some other disgusting tortures like setting snake to go into female's body after you know, taking down their pants. Wts.

Idk what was going on in those people's mind. Psychopath.

They kill in the name of democracy but they're just murderers. In fact, worse than murderers. 人渣!
Ok, i think the museum's propaganda is working on me.
Most of the prisoners became paralysed after being released when the war ended. Gosh. I cannot even....

Then, there was killing of civilians and releasing of extremely harmful chemicals that caused deformities in humans. Haiz.

They even had real dead foetuses on display. It was so depressing to see all these.
After the museum, we went to a nearby cafe to have a drink and we took uber. Oh my tian, it was only $1 to uber there. I can uber everywhere!

HCMC Day 2/R Birthday/Ryzer 7th Anniversary

L'USINE
First stop today after breakfast and lazing in bed until 145pm.

Café hopping in HCMC is good, they're not bad and very cheap. I had the most amazing avocado smoothie yesterday and hopefully today's will be better.

#dayretravel #ryzer
I just ordered my first vietnam coffee. Can someone tell me why they don't fill the liquid to the top?

Ray just had his first mouth of the coffee here and he exclaimed, 'woah, I'm awake immediately. It's supposed to be this gao. It's like a caffeine punch!'

Then, proceeds to try to force my coffee on me while I'm busy dayre-ing.
My Linguine & Clams.

Live Update:

It is bad. Don't order it.

Period.
R's Steak Frites w Garden Salad.

Verdict by R (right now): the beef is erm quite tender and well seasoned. The erm black pepper sauce tastes like they put in some effort which is not always the case, right? The quality of the beef (nodding head) surprises me. It's juicy and not tough. It has just the right amount of char on the surface. For $15, it's quite hard to beat.

HCM Day 2 Cont

Got too busy catching pokemons and touring so i stopped my updates.

Continuing from where I stopped, this is the little shop below the café. I saw quite a number of things that I found on Taobao and they priced it so much more expensive.

#ryzer
After that we walked over to a newly opened shopping centre. There was nothing much except Takashimaya. The other shops have not opened yet.
After R bought two shirts, we left to catch some pokemons again. Yay!

People there probably don't need to work because at around 4pm on a weekday afternoon, there were so many people catching pokemons. Lol.

I wonder how much Niantic is earning. 算钱到手软。
Another place that #pokemongobroughtmehere haha. We didn't plan much for the trip so pokemon go really brought me to places where I didn't plan to go.

This whole building is made up of different cafés. HCM is really a hipster's heaven.
We wanted to go to the café on top of this super tall building, erm Bitexco? I can't remember the name.

We didn't go in the end though.
#pokemongobroughtmehere
After catching enough pokemons, we went back to the hotel to eat at the Executive lounge again. We ate there every single day
Haha.

Gian peng ttm. 😁
We heard good reviews about this restaurant where you can eat in the dark so we made reservations for our anniversary dinner/R bday dinner.

There is a similar one in Sg called Nox.
We were asked to wait in this room while we decide which style of food we wanted. They have Western, Eastern and Vegetarian.

I wanted Eastern but R wanted Western so we went with it as the server told us it'd be better if we can discuss the taste while eating.

I was so afraid that they would have beef or lamb since it's western and i can't run away from it.
We were served a welcome drink while waiting for the next server to come take our order.
We were asked by a deaf&mute server to wear the eye mask and fit these shapes into the correct spaces to prac for the dinner later.

It was easy since it's just shapes and not real soup that will flow out.
We were then asked to keep our belongings in the locker especially those that can emit light.

The waiter ushered us to another building where the dinner was served. We were led into the dining room by a blind waitress.

It was so dark. It felt really uncomfortable at first since it was really complete darkness. The spiral staircase helped blocked out any light ray that might come in.

The food was served in plates that are similar to the game we played.
Raymond broke a glass the first thing we stepped into the dining room.
We haven't even sat down yet and he already broke something. It was so paiseh but luckily no one could see us. Hahaha. Heng ah!

HCM Day 3

The last day was spent going on a ons day tour at mekong river delta. It was a 2.5h car ride to the jetty and before that we went to visit this temple.

My mom would have loved to be here because the laughing buddha is her fav. I sent the photos in my family group chat and she was so quick to ask me where I was at.

My witty sister replied that I was in heaven with the buddha. Lol
We took quite a number of photos because our tour guide was so enthu about photography. He would ask if we wanted a shot at certain locations and even helped us ask the other people who are in the frame to move aside. Haha!
 1. All the entrances/bridges
Some metal bridge.
Jetty
We hopped around some of the islands around mekong river delta so these are some of the entrances.
 2. Different modes of transportation
We took a short sanpan ride on the Mekong and the guide reminded us multiple times not to put our hands on the side of the boats because there are crocs in the water!
We also got to take a horse carriage ride for awhile. It was all included in the package.

Our very enthu tour guide took these photos for us again haha. He was always the one suggesting when and where to take photos.
 3. Food!
We were welcomed onto the island with plates of fresh fruits and singing performances.
Lunch was so-so. The tour guide was saying how the other singaporeans that he led finished all the food the previous time but we had so much leftover.
This weird looking fruit, captured by R, is actually a coconut. Both of us have never seen coconut that looks like this.
Some other random photo of me trying to cross the tiny stream on a wooden log. Erm, it was actually quite lame but since everyone did it, i also do lo.
The river is actually very muddy and R says its because it's full of nutrients!

The guide was also telling us how Thailand and the other countries that are nearer to the source of the river are f-ing up their river because they built dams.

Vietnam being at the end of the river had to suffer because the sea water will flow in when the water in the river gets too low. Haiz.
There is a little zoo at the lunch place but the animals were all kind of dangerous. Haha.
Last sampan boat ride back to main land.
Both R and I were trying to get nice shots of the boats and the sky. So we compared our photos at the end and were fighting with each other about whose photo is better.

I was like, 'see, mine has the small boat by the side and this uncle on the boats, i win!'

R was like, 'mine also have...'

Very bo liao. But that's how we roll.
We went to a steakhouse to have dinner after the tour as R's aunt recommended it.

Why was i in a steakhouse when i dont like beef? Lol.

I had pork chops.
In fact, i think my pork chop was actually not too bad but the portion was so big i couldn't finish.

While we were there, r overheard the waiter talking about replenishing the lure that is right outside the restaurant.

#ryzer #dayretravel
#pokemongobroughtmehere

Lol. There were so many places that we didn't plan to go at first but we visited in the end because of lures. Fml.

Pokemon go is seriously too addictive.

Anyway, we also happened to find this awesome peach milk tea behind highlands coffee. It was so good. We should have bought 2 and not shared 1 now that i think about it. Craving for it now... Noooooo
