Archiving Dayre Posts

14 Jul 2016

Thursday work situation at home. Yay to ray working from home half day today. Meh to him going to office later.

Thursday is kind of my half day too because technically my class starts at 730pm but today I have a make up class at 5pm.

But I still have marking to do. Urrghh, I starting to dread going to work. I mean I used to love it but as time passes it just becomes so dreadful.

I think that goes for all kinds of work.
It just eventually becomes something that sucks your life away.

I'm lucky to a certain extent that I don't need to wake up early for it but I end late to compensate for it. Oh well... Grass is always greener on the other side.
Nothing much to update about wedding planning during the week because ray doesn't like to discuss stuff during weekdays so I can only 'book appointment' with him during the weekend. Sian.

Oh, I also haven't talked to my mom about the solemnisation yet but she's a very easy going person so it should be fine.

On a happier note, we are going to watch Les Miserables this Sunday! Oh, which reminds me that I haven't printed the e ticket.
Ray is going to work from home the whole day! Yayyy
The new scoring system for PSLE is finally announced. They will affect this year's P1 students.

I find that the new scoring system is very much similar to the O level grading system (L1R5).
From what I gathered from the news article, it means that there is no more bell curve and students will be graded based on his or her abilities.

However, the top priority when it comes to choose of school will still be their academic achievements.
The lowest score would be 4 if a student is able to achieve all AL4 for all subjects.

The syllabus remains the same, only the grading system changed.

They say that this would reduce competition, encourage more holistic learning because students will not chase for that last mark etc.
Some say that they don't think this will cause any changes to the current competitive climate that students are in now and I do agree to a certain extent.

They say that when there is a tie when it comes to getting into the same secondary school, then citizenship and choice of school will become the tie breaker.

So, again, very very similar to O levels when you choose to go secondary school.
Then they talked about how you should choose school not just for their academic achievements but for their ethos, cca and what not.

In my humble opinion, what I see is that most of the elite schools are all rounded. They have strong sports team where they get their DSA students from and etc. Whereas the neighbourhood schools are usually plagued with discipline problems and what not. They care more about how you wear your uniform than any other things.
Prefects are usually placed on duty to catch people who wear ankle socks, skirts that are too short, pants that are too tight blah blah.

Looking back now, it was really quite a waste of time for me. I could have been studying in the classroom.
 All schools are good schools
I disagree.

Having taught students from all sorts of primary and secondary schools, I will tell you that schools are different and not equal at all.

For starters, the slightly better primary schools offer a wider range of learning opportunities for their students. They have overseas programs and they learn more than what the neighbourhood schools offer.

My P4 student from a better primary school in the north is learning English Literature in school now. How cool is that?
They don't read extremely difficult books but it's a good start and it allows students to cultivate a better reading culture.

In contrasts, neighbourhood schools only have the usual morning reading period before morning assembly. I asked my students if they really read, guess what they told me.

'Cher, I have been reading the same book, same page, same line since P4! Hahaha!'

He is a P6 student. They found it amusing and everyone started laughing.

Sigh.
So, I will definitely not send my future kids to neighbourhood primary sch if I can. It's a mega huge no-no.

Tbh, I even find that students from the better schools carry themselves better.

But then again, this is from my own experience, I probably haven't seen the 'ah beng' students from the good schools yet.
Ok, idw to talk about that anymore. It's not happy.

On a happier note (again), we are looking for venues for the banquet. I already have some in mind that i like such as Halia Villa but Ray says he wants somewhere bright and with full height window. He wants lots of light shining since he has decided he wants a luncheon.

So, I remembered how he brought me to The Clifford Pier to eat when he first started work. It was just beside his old office.

I love the ambience there.
They can hold around 200 pax but it's not cheap.

I emailed them last night and they replied this morning. So efficient man! Love it.

I think we should probably visit some of these venues during the weekend to find out more.

This is really quite chio.

Bridal Gown

Ok, I think we are really quite set on New Zealand solemnisation thingy. I didn't dare to talk to my mom about it because we kept changing our minds before this and my family is actually quite sian to hear about any of our wedding planning.

Ryzer ish fickle.

What happened was that I asked R if it's really confirm because I can't tell what he wants. He's those kind of fiancé who keeps telling me to decide on things but when I casually ask him about it, he's full of opinions.
Sometimes I would be like, 'what? I thought u say I decide? What do you want?'

This actually happened quite a few times so I don't really want to make decision on my own because I know he will have something to add on.

Always act 一个 don't care but actually care a lot. Make up your mind, dude.

So anyway, how I know it's confirm set on NZ was because of this conversation.

🐑: so how? Are we really doing it in Nz?
🐏: huh? I thought we already agreed liao? Oh, your family leh? You haven't asked your mom leh.
🐑: really? I haven't been home all this time, how to ask? Ok, you confirm then I ask hor.

🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉

So it's confirmed! I just have to talk to my mom about it. She's so 随便 confirm can one la.
I'm so lost about the order of things to do. Like now that we have finalised our venue, we just need to put a deposit then that's it.

But what should I do next? Is there like a SOP that I can follow?

Doing everything at once is so crazy.
So the first thing that I choose to look for is dresses.

I'm not a fashionable person so I really have no idea what I like or what I don't.

Pinterest becomes my best friend.
There are so many different types I'm going nuts.
So I just browse through all the pictures under the tag wedding dress and opened a board for the dresses that caught my eyes.

Idk how I'll look in them but they are what Im gravitating towards to now.
Why dayre only can square? Urrghh.
After a few pins, I went to my own board to review and found that I'm pinning only a few types of dresses. The off shoulder ball gowns, mandarin collar(which I assume R will say YES!!!) and mesh top.
They're all so dreamy and like fairytale-ish.
I really like this kind where the gown is spread all over the floor. I must take this kind of Pre wed photo. Must make mental note now!
I wonder if I would feel like Cinderella when she first wore the gown that the fairy godmother gave her.
This one is more chill which I thought would be quite nice for the solemnisation.
This is the mandarin collar one that if R says yes to it, I think he should match his top to mine and make a mandarin collar one too. Haha.

I used to follow this Taiwanese blogger because she's chio. She went to take a super duper post wedding shoot in Korea a few years back and her photos are so pretty.

Her photos were the reasons I was obsessed with doing PWS in Korea at first but R kept saying it's a waste of money because they're all studio shots. Oh well, I do agree. But I like the style.
I thought she looks like Park Bom from 2ne1 before all the plastic surgeries.

Anyway, the dress on the floor style was from her too.
是不是很 chio?

Wah, when I saw this photo I melted. Too pretty already. I also showed it to my sis and she also concurred that this style is v nice.

sundate

Date with the fiancé today. Brunch at Club Street social then later off to Les Mis!
Bastardising the coffee in progress. Haha.

I remember how his friends refused to let him put sugar in his coffee when they first brought us to Yahava.

He is such a sugar person so he always put sugar in his ☕.
Our brunch today. It wasn't mind blowing. I'm starting to feel like I shouldn't be spending so much just to eat eggs. Lol.

A bit late to realise this huh.
I think he slimmed down quite a lot. For a period of time I was quite worried because he dropped like 4kg within a very short period of time. He was when he started work at 9am and ended work at 5 6 am.

Dark times.

So happy he's on the beach now. Fingers crossed so he doesn't have to be on any project starting tmr.
Out in this pair of heels from #theclosetlover 😍😍😍

Love the nude pink to bits!
While waiting for the musical to start, I made R selfie with me. Haha.

My hair ends look so dry they're dying.
This is the best photo I could take with my note 5. Not bad already la given the dim lighting.

I really love the musical and was so touched by some of the scenes I teared.
***

As I grow older, I find that my head become more oily and stinky even when I wash it everyday.

R has the same problems as me. I could smell his 'head' during the musical and I know it's coming from his head because he always make me smell his head to show that I 爱屋及乌. Lol fml

Currently nuaing in R office waiting for dinner time. There's good natural light here so selfie is a mustzz
Me and my man.
This chair looks quite cool, maybe we should have it in our room.
South Beach Tower
This sofa also not bad. I kinda like this style.
This was our dinner at Jai Thai. It was not bad but not the best. We had it quite early like around 6pm so damn it, I'm hungry now. Nooooooo
