So today, technically yesterday, we went for R's bro 过大礼. It was a full day thing. I had classes in the early afternoon so I skipped that.
Idk if it's bad omen but his grandma fell ill and was hospitalised so he had to drive back because they were in the middle of 过大礼 so the parents can't leave.
It's not that serious from how it looks but the doc said to keep her for observation.
That's besides the point.

So, I went for the dinner with his bro future in law family. I thought it was a bit weird cos technically speaking I'm not part of the family yet but who can say no to good food?
Anyway, I don't have any experience with 过大礼 so I have no idea how it should or should not be. Everything just felt very modern.
They two families had lunch together then proceeded to the female's house for the giving of gifts, 烧猪 etc. Then, I think in between the female side just cut and kept the mid portion of the

🐷 and gave the head and backside back to the male family~有头有尾
Anyway, R made this comment at dinner, '一定要做过大礼的吗?'
Everyone at the dinner table just laughed and told him there was no running from it. He looked at me and I was like, ‘你问我妈,我不知道。’
This is not the first time he talked about not wanting to do these chinese customary stuff for the wedding. I already gave in on the gatecrashing part since he didn't like it though stricly speaking it's not a chinese tradition.

It just feels so insincere like he just want to 随便随便 finish everything. I am a chinese and I want to hold on to my roots. I don't want to just do away with all the traditional stuff just because it's troublesome.
We can do away with some but I think there are still some parts that cannot be omitted. I haven't told him how I felt but he probably thinks I think too much again.
Dayre, thanks for taking in all my rants. I really needed an outlet 2am in the morning. 😂

R is taking LOA this year end for 2 months partly because he's quite sick of working and also he needed some time to study for his gmat and plan the wedding. Idk how much wedding planning will there be given how he doesn't care much now.
So anyway, we were thinking of going on one more trip before Rinjani in end december with Batards (aka his Jc friends) and @orezenonat.
Here are the few choices on our list right now but we just can't decide which one to go.

Here are the few choices on our list right now but we just can't decide which one to go.
1. CAMBODIA
I've always wanted to visit Ang Kor Wat but never got a chance to. I've read and even taught about the Khmer civilisation during my stint in a sec sch teaching history to sec 1 kids. I'm more inclined to visit these cultural places than cities as I grow up. Of course, it's also because i haven't been there in my life.

2. JAPAN
R wants to go, not me. I've never been a huge fan of Japan. No matter how much people raved about it, I just dont have the urge to visit. I'm paranoid about the radiation, idk how true/real it is, I just don't want to take the risk. I'm also quite hum ji because it seems like they're always experiencing earth quake. They're not in the pacific ring of fire for no reason.
I think I need a lot more persuasion before I will say yes to Japan.

3. AUSTRALIA
It's going to be so hot in december there but I've never been there before. Though they have so many dangerous creatures that might kill me, I just enjoy places where I can go on a road trip more. I really enjoyed our last trip to Nz south island where we got to visit so many different places. So, Australia is on the top of my list. Idk abt R. I think he prefers a cooler climate because that is when it feels like you're overseas.

4. NEW ZEALAND - North island
When i first got together with R, he made me marathon Lord of the Rings because they were his favourite movies and it's unacceptable that I haven't seen one. 😄 I enjoyed the movies and were very very very impressed with the sceneries. They're so so so beautiful. I think Air NZ has a promotion to fly to Auckland as well so this is kind of up on my list too plus it is less hot than Australia.
I really can't decide! Which one should I go?

5. EUROPE
and then there's Europe that he suggested but I told him I don't want to spend too much. There are just too many big expenses next year with the solemnisation and family trip in NZ and the wedding reception in sg. Got to save some money...
