Travel: Mongolia - Yolyn Am
We set off at around 9am to take a flight to Dalanzadgad where we began our exciting Gobi Trip with Travel Gobi Mongolia. We took the 4 Days Trip and visited Yolyn Am, Sand Dune at Khongor and Bayanzag.
We did what all typical tourists would do - taking pictures everywhere. Once we landed, JY and R were filming away, taking videos of them coming off the plane, walking to the "airport" and twirling around.
We took a short ride to the small town in Dalanzadgad to have a meal and buy some stuff from the supermarket. If you're not into eating mutton and I mean mutton for every single meal, I suggest you buy lots and lots of food from the small town. Stock up on different kinds of instant noodles, get some can food that you can eat immediately. Otherwise, you will really suffer. You should also get some snacks like chips, sweets and chocolates if you prefer to have some sweet things throughout the day. We got some fruits which really helped me got through the 4 days without proper food. But take note that fruits in Mongolia are more expensive than usual because they are all imported.
Our first night staying in a ger (pronounced as gear not girl) and it was freezing cold.
You can smell mutton in the room. Apparently, their three meals are all made up of meat so if you're a vege person, please prepare your own or be prepared to eat vege cooked in mutton soup.
The valley, Yolyn Am, begins from Zuun Saikhan Mountain, a branch of the Gurvan Saikhan mountain system, and stretches over 5 km. It is completely shaded from the sun in some parts by high cliff walls.
We rode on horses to get to the glacier.
My poor horse had both his front legs tied up because he was too young and inexperienced to be left free on his own.
We walked all the way in to find the glacier and it was so cool but treacherous. The ice was melting so it was really slippery and if you're careful about how you distribute your weight, you will step into a hole.
One of the locals was so "garang", he walked in with slippers and walked really fast and BOOM! He fell into a super deep hole and couldn't get himself out. Luckily he was with some friends. I couldn't imagine the pain when his private part smashed onto the ice.
After that, we walked back to where the horses were only to find no one there except the owner decked in traditional costume. LOL. After about 5 mins, his son who is really young (prob around 10 - 12 years old) came back with 5 horses, sitting on one and pulling the other four. o.O He was holding on to my horse while leading us back and he was spitting all the way back. Idk why.
We were hoping to see some mountain goats and this was what we got. He was actually quite poor thing. He was left behind by his friends because he's old and is dying. Just stood still for the whole time we were there. Imagine wolves coming for him, I think he'll be dead for sure.
There were also people doing some religious rites to communicate with spirits near the goat.
After all the horse riding, we went back to our "camp-site", R decided to take a walk because we saw a herd of horses on the way back. We climbed over several hills just to get close to them and of course he had to take a #selfie.
That probably sums up our adventure at Yolyn Am. It was the second best toilet we got out of the 4 days because there was no doors and walls to keep us in. Fresh air yo!!!!!
