Review: Liquid Eyeliners
I bet many of you out there love to use liquid eyeliners. It gives the most precise shape and of course looks the best because of the glossy finish. I will be reviewing 4 different high-street liquid eyeliners where you can find at any Watsons, Guardian or the shop itself like Etude House and The Face Shop.
P.s. I did try other types before but these are the 4 which I have in my case now.
So, from left-right then top-bottom:
#1 Etude House Proof 10 Liquid Liner
#2 L'Oreal Lineur Intense in Carbon Black
#3 The Face Shop FACE it Extreme DOT Pen Eyeliner
#4 K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner 24h - 1 Day Tattoo
Below are the photos of how the brush/applicator looks like. Etude House's a brush tip which is really soft. I would recommend it for advance users. If you're new to makeup / drawing eyeliner, go for felt tip or marker type.
L'Oreal's is a felt tip applicator which is also very soft and easy to apply. It's good for beginners or amateur and the colour pay off is really good. My first liquid liner was this line of liquid liners :) It was a breeze to apply with the felt tip. Subsequently, I also bought the marker kind from Canmake but they dried up so quickly. I didn't repurchase it. I bought like 2-3 of these when I was in the States because they are really cheap there. I really don't understand why these high street makeup are so expensive in Sg. Ok, generally, makeup is quite expensive in Sg. damn....
The Face Shop's is a dot applicator as you can see there are 3 short sticks. It's supposed to give you a more precise line and easy to apply but I didn't really like it. I think they probably discontinue it in Sg already. I'm not sure. I used to quite like eyeliners from The Face Shop but something happened to the quality and I stopped buying from them. This is the last liquid eyeliner I have left from them. It hasn't dried up yet so yea...still around.
Lastly, K-Palette's a marker-like tip but it is a lot sharper and very very precise. I love this eyeliner to bits. I would say the design of the applicator is similar to Maybelline's Hyper Sharp eyeliner but I prefer this one. My Maybelline's one dried up so fast as well so I thought this is a better bargain. I've been using it for many of my clients and none of them had complaint of it not lasting or etc. So, this is probably the best. I usually don't buy high end eyeliner as I think the effect won't differ that much. Furthermore, I trust Japanese and Korean products more when it comes to eyeliner as we Asians really need these little things to help us make our eyes bigger.
So, let's get on with the test. The sequence is the same as the first one just that I drew two sets for The Face Shop's just to show you what it's like when you using it horizontally and the K-palette one (last 2 lines) to show how thin and thick you can get when you apply different pressure.
#1 Water Test. I ran the liners through running tap water and none of them smudged yet.
#2 Finger test. I rested my index finger on the part where the liners are drawn and dragged it across and this is what I got. L'Oreal's almost gone, The Face Shop's slightly smudged.
#3 Rubbing. I dried my hand up with a tissue then tried rubbing it really hard. As you can see, the only one which is still visible is still the K-palette's eyeliner. :D
No worries about it not going off even when you rub it so hard, simply use a eye makeup remover and everything would be gone like POOF!
I hope this helps you when you choose to buy any liquid liners at the stalls. Unless you're really in need of a liquid eyeliner like immediately, I would suggest you to try to test them out like this. Running water, smudge, rub. If you don't mind being a little bit disgusting, errhermmm use your facial oils to do the tests since that is what is going to make them smudge the most. Just swipe your clean finger across the most oily part of your face then rub it on the drawn eyeliner. It is important for them to be waterproof but how often would you get water on your face? Facial oils will most likely, almost 100%, be the one that's causing you to have panda eyes.
Another tip for you, apply eyeshadow primer before you apply and also a powder eyeshadow of the same colour on top of the liner to set it in place. This would help it to last longer and make the colour more intense.
Above-mentioned are all my personal experiences with the products, it may not be applicable to every single one of you so take some time to try the products out. Who knows those that are not suitable for me might be perfect for you!?
If you know of any other eyeliners that are awesome, leave a comment and let me know so I can try them out! :)
Have a great SUNDAY!!!
