Makeup: Makeup Blunders I
I was thinking of what I should blog about in the coming months because I am quite busy with tuitions and hanging out with R (still very happy that he's back and not in faraway US) and I barely have any time to myself. And so, I decided to squeeze in some time to blog about common makeup mistakes or blunders that people make.
To kick start this series, I will first touch on face makeup. It is a very huge mistake to neglect face makeup. In fact, it is what pulls everything together.
1. Foundation shade too dark
This is what happens when you buy foundations that are too dark for your face. Some people thought that it might compensate because BB creams usually make your face too white, why not get something darker. Turns out, this is a big NO-NO!!!
Look at the colour difference. I admit that I was being a big exaggerating as to choosing a shade so much darker but you get my point right? You don't want to look like someone who went for sun-tanning strictly for the face. You look hilarious!
2. Foundation too light
This is what happens when you use the normal BB creams without testing it before you buy it. Most of the BB creams sold in Singapore come from Korea and as you can already see from Korean Dramas, Kpop and what not, they are very very fair. Koreans, Japanese and Taiwanese are crazy about being fair. Also, they have 4 seasons which makes it so much easier for them to become fair. Unlike in Singapore where we have the Sun 365 days, we are usually more tan. Especially if any of you out there who are lazy to put on sun block. This is what you'll get when you just apply the BB creams. I have tan skin because I was a Netball player when I was young and I was very outdoorsy then.
As you can see, it's concealing power is rather weak and there is a distinct difference between the colour of my face and my neck. My neck is obviously darker than my face.
So, what can you do to fix this? If you have already bought one of the darker or lighter shade, fret not. You do not need to throw them away. All you need to do is to either get another foundation which is lighter or darker depending on what you have and mix them together. Try it out at home to get the ratio right before you go out.
So as you can see, I needed more of the lighter shade since I'm a lot fairer than the darker foundation.
Blend it well and apply it to your face! VIOOLLAA!!!
Using the correct tone gives you better coverage and of course creates a more seamless look. You no longer have face and neck of different color which makes you look like a clown.
3. Visible concealer
My lights are too strong so it actually flooded out the difference but if you see properly, there is a difference in colour on my fore head where I used the concealer to conceal my pimple. This is the result you'll suffer from when you fail to blend and buff out the corners of the concealer well.
What you can do is to dab along the outer corners of the concealer until you can't see a clear distinction between the parts where the concealer is and the rest of your face.
4. Cakey and thick makeup
It looks totally fine on camera because it covers the flaws, pimples, pigmentation and etc but when you look at it under the normal daylight or someone else looks at you.....
It's like SHIT!!!! Why do you look like you applied all the powder foundation on your face? I know some of us like to mattify our looks but there is definitely a limit. It's good enough to use a brush and sweep everything on your face if you already have liquid foundation/BB cream on. If you use the sponge.........it's going to be really thick!
One small experiment! I wiped one strip off with a makeup remover wipe.
TADAH!!!!!! Exposed! Look at the colour difference and you will understand what I'm saying. So, unless you're going for a photoshoot, don't put on such thick foundation! No doubt, you'll look good on camera but you'll look cakey to others!
That's all for this post. Stay tuned for my next makeup blunders posts :)
