Travelogue 6 - Yellowstone National Park Day 1

Before I jump into the details for our Yellowstone adventure, I would just like to write down some thoughts so far... It has been a really wonderful trip thus far, probably one of my fav trips and longest one. I'm loving the states so much! There are so many points to love about this beautiful country (at least the places i've been to).
1. Restrooms everywhere equipped with ever lasting supply of toilet paper and seat covers. They are always dry and clean, doesn't smell bad and bright. I can be quite particular about toilets as I had quite a few bad experiences in different countries, even in Sg where they claim to be clean. bullshit :X
2. Friendly people. I mentioned it in the previous post about people being helpful to help us take photos and stuff. There are actually more than just that. People smile at strangers and are always ready to chat with someone else (stranger) and share laughters and jokes. We were sitting on one of the bus to head back to hotel at Las Vegas and a group of people just started chatting. They are total strangers but the conversation went on so smoothly as if they knew each other for a long time. People do chat with us as well. I even got a hug from a stranger along the streets of San Francisco because she said everyone needs a hug once in a while. It made me feel so good after.
3. Beautiful views around us. The mountains, lakes, animals, rapids, fountains, geysers and etc etc are all so amazing that I will never forget for the rest of my life. Though half the time I hid in the car because it was really too cold for me and my ankle was hurting. But, overall, AWESOME!

The list just goes on but there are definitely some negative points and things that I've experienced here as well. The weather and climate is so cold and dry here that my skin and lips are cracking so badly even after me slapping layers and layers of lotion and lip balms. The roads here are not all lighted with street lamps but i guess that is why you can see so many many many stars in the sky at night. I've never seen so many stars in my life. It was woahhh. Then again, the prices for food is too expensive here. The asian food here just sucks, to be very honest. They charge twice or more but the taste just WTH???!!! The only asian food i've enjoyed so far is a instant red curry chicken and jasmine rice sold at safeway. 3-5mins in the microwave and wahhhlaaaa! TASTY! HAHA! Been telling R how we can make so much money just by selling food here. I bet my mom, R's mom, R's bro, R and me can cook so much better than some of the restaurants here. :X

Yellowstone National Park Day 1

We stayed at Bozeman and had to drive down to the park everyday (1.5 hrs trip). We took the scenic drive down which another friendly american suggested. But apparently R went off course which brought us to an even nicer place. :) Can't remember was it I84/I85.

I'm Fabulous!

After this jump shot, my ankle hurts like shit :(
Was so lucky to be able to capture this beautiful butterfly :D

Look at how awesome the view is! The sky is blue with fluffy white clouds that look so comfortable you can sleep on it.

We actually spotted an eagle first but obviously they fly too fast for us to take a picture of it. Along the drive, there are signs by the side telling us to drive slowly as there are animals crossing and we ignored at first cause after driving like 5 miles there were still no animals in sight. Then! 2 Bisons appeared. R was so happy as that's the animal he was looking forward to find here at Yellowstone and we're not even exactly in Yellowstone yet.
I guess this was Madison River. Cant remember.
This is a really cute ground squirrel which you can spot there running around.

One of the hot spring thingy that was along the way which R got so super excited and got off the car, walked all the way over to take pictures of it.

Took this from where the car is with digital zoom. You can imagine how far it was. R is loving this photo. I took this without him knowing. hee

One of the hot springs there that is so so so hot! The blue colour made it look so welcoming but it is in fact deadly!

The effects can only been shown through videos which I will edit when I get back to Sg :) bloop bloop bloop

On the way to Old Faithful geyser, we spotted this herd of Bisons which made R super duper excited.

Old Faithful Geyser going off at 5:20pm. Similarly, the effects can only be seen through videos.
Another animal spotting:) Elk! There are actually so many of them, I slowly got sick of looking at them. :X

At Hayden Valley, we spotted bears! Thanks to another friendly american who lent us his telescope thingy to see the bears. Else, we wouldn't be able to see as the bears are always so far away.

We rested near West Thumb Lake for awhile then head back to Ramada Hotel (best hotel i've stayed in the states that is affordable and super comfy, nice, clean etc etc)

Ciao!
